Imagine loving the sound of your own voice, of being proud of the video you have just made for your new website.  Imagine being able to really say what you feel? 

If only....

In reality, do you cringe when you hear a recording of your voice and do you find it hard to be really honest about how you feel?   

All our voices are unique - crafted partly by our physical body but more importantly by our emotional upbringing.  The aim of SOUND MATTERS is to explore all this, put you in touch with your own voice and give you the chance to love it.

If you think about it for a moment, you will recognise that one of the things you love about the people closest to you is the sound of their voice, and this often creates a physical reaction in your body -  you may smile, and you may get excited.

So what about the sound of your own voice - where does our extremely negative emotional reaction come from?  

The answer is a long and complicated story; it's your story.

As an infant our only means of survival is our voice.  For most of us our carers are acutely aware of this and respond appropriately, without judgement or question, giving us the food, care and attention we so fundamentally need. 

But very soon the social conditioning starts - to learn language there has to be right sounds and wrong sounds.  Beyond infancy our emotional expression is censored - don't make so much noise, don't cry, don't be a sissy, don't be stupid etc .  For no apparent or understandable reason the sounds we make are censored and judged leaving us mystified, scared, worried or simply frightened to carry on making sounds which reflect how we feel.

Can you imagine being able to simply make sound for the fun of it again?!!
